Intermezzo: between Italianità and Helvetism.

The coexistence of several languages in the same region has also influenced the Italian that is spoken in Switzerland. There are borrowings from French and German that differ from the Italian spoken in Italy. In Ticino, for example, if a product is on promotion, it would be described as “in azione” (from the German “Aktion”), whereas in Italy, they are more likely to use term “in promozione”. Or perhaps you’d like to order a coffee? Well, in Ticino you might “comandare un caffè” (from the French “commander” – almost as if the cup were being ordered to get in line), while in Italy, you would say “ordinare un caffè”. With our team of language professionals, all of whom translate into their native language, such differences are no problem. Their background and experience ensures that they choose the right words, supporting the success of your texts in the respective target market. Which kind of Italian is right for you?

Italian consular translation

The Italian Consulate relies exclusively on the services of certified translators for all official documents and consular translations. For such matters, Emilia Merola is available to assist. As a recognised translator at the Consolato Generale d'Italia – the Italian Consulate General in Zurich – she will be happy to take care of the translation of your official documents. In this way, you can be sure that your texts will be accepted by the relevant authorities. If you wish, Emilia can also handle other consular matters on your behalf. Looking to make an appointment with the Italian Consulate? Need to pay consular fees? Are there documents that need to be submitted properly and efficiently?
